A practical guide to understanding ParkingEye charges, fighting unfair tickets, and avoiding them in the future.
ParkingEye is one of the UK’s largest private parking management companies. They monitor thousands of car parks for supermarkets, hospitals, hotels, and retail parks using ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras.
A ParkingEye ticket is officially a Parking Charge Notice (PCN). Unlike a council ticket (Penalty Charge Notice), this is an invoice for breaching a contract on private land, not a criminal fine. However, they are enforceable in civil court, so you shouldn't ignore them.
Verify the dates, times, and location. Ensure the photos actually show your car.
Find receipts, bank statements, or appointment letters that prove you were a customer. Take photos of unclear signage if applicable.
Top Tip: If you were a genuine customer, ask the store manager or hospital reception to cancel the ticket. They often have the power to do this directly.
Submit an appeal via their website within 28 days. Attach your evidence. Do not ignore the notice.
If ParkingEye rejects your appeal, you can take it to POPLA (Parking on Private Land Appeals), an independent body. Around 40-50% of appeals here are successful.
